Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow your options down by weekly suggesting the events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. So here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.
Thursday: Cassette Collectief meets Overdose.am Jamsessions @ Club Up
Boy oh boy, did Overdose.am pop its jam session cherry on December 16th of last year and what a memorable first time it was. Talented musicians took turns improvising to the beats of Stijn Sadee and created a raw, warm and live jam session (check out some of our recordings below). Good things should never come to an end, so we are back with another edition this Thursday. From 10 to 12pm it’s beats and musicians and from 12pm on Cassette Collectief residents Simon Weiss, Bert de Rooij and Tick Nopp & Caspar van Onsbrons take over the tables.
A few fun facts:
- The first 100 people to attend will receive a shot of culture. Whether it’s art, fashion or music, be sure to show up on time to receive your much needed dose of free cultural alcoholic energy.
- Put on your fancy pants, you might be scouted to participate in a series of visual surprises.
- Lastly, keep your eyes open when entering either the smoking area or even the toilets. ‘Nuff said.

Friday: Balans @ Studio 80
Darko Esser, James Ruskin & Peter van Hoesen (live): three actors in the game that have been mastering the art of contemporary beat-matching as guests of honour all over the Amsterdam club scene. Glad to see they’re headlining for this event. The second hall will be hosted by ESHU records, a new label and collective founded by Roger Gerressen and Jocelyn Abell. Definitely worth looking out for.
Friday: Crackhouse @ Melkweg & Club NL
This Friday the old hall of Leidseplein’s Melkweg will host a party named Crackhouse. Probably referring to the sounds of cracking house music… but of course I could be wrong. They did manage to book a Canadian duo called Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts (live), a première of a new act called Art Department and residents Aron Friedman, Brent Roozendaal & Carlos Valdes. And if that wasn’t enoug; the party continues at Club NL when the clock hits after-party hour.
Saturday: Redevice invites their bitches @ Studio 80
Whether they have to be imported from Berlin & Frankfurt like Mayaan [aka Ms Fitz] and Vera, or if it’s Sandrien and Mirella Kroes from plain old Amsterdam, one thing’s for sure: this Saturday underground club Studio 80 will be rocking to some profound spaced-out female grooves. Yes, female techno DJs all over the place, nice!
Saturday: Foxes & Wolves @ Melkweg
Hosted by The Wolves ft. Tom Trago, Tettero, Casper Tielrooij & Job de Wit, this night brings Manchester based Greg Wilson and Legowelt (live) on stage. Not too familiar with Foxes & Wolves? A glittering evening full off the finest of both contemporary and traditional disco every third Saturday night of the month. Go boogie.
