Longing for a Berlin style café in Amsterdam? I’ve found one! Café Brecht, located at the Weteringschans, is such a cute little gem. Brecht is decorated with vintage lampshades, granny’s teacups and comfy chairs. The café is named after the Berlin-based writer, poet and theatre director Bertolt Brecht. As a tribute to its name they organize free ‘Poem and Music’ nights on every first Monday of the month, and every Wednesday (from 13.00) you can sip tea while a hairdresser is cutting your hair. Got hungry? Brecht offers simple but tasty food too.
All products are chosen carefully and with respect for local producers, such as cheese from a local cheese farmer and pure Dutch apple juice. If you’re a beer lover, you’re totally in the right place. Brecht offers an extensive range of rare German beers. The friendly staff will help you choose the one for you. Brecht feels like a perfect hangout for a dull Sunday evening, with beers and crunchy pretzels.
Don’t worry, Brecht isn’t one of the many other cafés trying too hard to be hip. Just sink into one of the vintage sofas and enjoy Brecht’s German gemütlichkeit.
