Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow your options down by weekly suggesting the events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. So here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.

Thursday: Noodlanding with El Guincho @ Paradiso

A couple of weeks ago I got the privilege to see one of 2011’s most promising Spanish indie/pop bands Delorean in the upper stage of Paradiso. This time around, their Spanish colleagues from the Canary Islands El Guincho take over the legendary stages of the Dutch pop temple. You might know these guys from their attractive music video for their song ‘Bombay’ (beneath). Definitely worth the 8 euro fee. “Hola supermercado de la bancos por aqui, let’s get Spanish!”

Friday: Rauw @ Trouw

Yes, yes, it’s time for the first Rauw edition of 2011 featuring futurehousemusicgurus Teki Latex & Orgasmic from the Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team. Next to DJing, these two also lead the Sound Pellegrino music label which is taking a leading role in steering the direction house is taking.

“Sound Pellegrino’s sonic identity is a paradox. hat I like to my French “banging electro” friends they think it’s minimal. When I play it to minimal DJs they think it bangs too hard. We love hard stuff when it’s creative and groovy, and we love minimalist music when it’s not boring nore serious. All Sound Pellegrino releases totally embody that state of mind.” (Teki Latex, in Franglais)

Also in the house will be Belgian duo Villa, Rauw godfather Joost van Bellen and our local heroes TWR72 and Homework.

Friday: Closer: Border Community Night @ Melkweg

What the hell is Border Community? Border Community is a UK-based independent label releasing a variety of electronic music. You might have heard of producers like James Holden, Nathan Fake, Extrawelt & Ricardo Tobar. The lastly named will be headlining the Melkweg this Friday, just as he did at 5 days off last year (on the video beneath). If you’re a minimal/techno/house fan, this might be one to attend for you. Wesley Matsell and Jorn Liefdeshuis will be supporting this event, not the least of electronic producers around either.

Saturday: Fiber Festival @ Trouw

FIBER Festival is a new audiovisual network festival, taking place on January 15th 2011 at, De Verdieping, the basement of the renowned venue of Trouw Amsterdam. FIBER concentrates on a new generation of artists, designers and musicians (DJ’s, VJ’s and producers) who understand the importance of sharing knowledge and combined efforts in order to realize an interdisciplinary experience of (visual) art and music. Expect new developments such as projection mapping, live visuals, interactive installations and innovatory electronic music.” Share knowledge by day, experience the toys and gear by night to the BPMs of Tarik Barri, Delta Funktionen, .Pim and Fafi Fabi.
