Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow your options down by weekly suggesting the events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. So here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.

Whilst many of you will wander off towards families and loved ones for this coming Christmas weekend, the after-parties on Boxing Day seem to have become an equally essential part of the yearly tradition. Once again, Amsterdam has enough to offer to all the stuffed bellies and Christmas runaways, so here’s a shortlist of what’s worth going to:

Sunday: Voltt Christmas Special @ Paradiso

Voltt has established its name in the capital’s party scene as one of the safest bets if you’re looking for familiar faces, with both local and internationally known artists, and well-packed venues, both in and out doors. Just like the yearly Voltt Loves Summer event, their Christmas special is a returning phenomenon in the capital’s most historic venue Paradiso. What have they gotten lined-up for us this time? Mathias Kaden with percussion and drums by Michael Nagler, aka ‘minimal samba’. Has the moment finally arrived where minimal/techno music gets supported by live instruments on a mainstream level? No complaints on this development, the genre has been good to Santa this year. Let’s hope turntable and midi-control artists keep moving forward with what they’re doing throughout 2011. Other local heroes such as Rauwkost, Joey Daniel, Jeff Moore and Bart Skils will support this Christmas extravaganza.

Sunday: Duizend-en-een-nacht @ Studio 80

Apparently this Boxing Day will bring us the 1001st feast, after 5 years of existence, of Rembrandtplein’s techno club Studio 80. To celebrate both the 5 year anniversary and Christmas’ closure a line-up of 16 DJs (featuring names such as Olene Kadar, Egbert, Anonym & Sandrien live) will burn your Christmas calories away until 9am in the morning for only 13 euros in presale. Can’t really say no that huh?

Sunday: Rockit – Christmas Allstars @ Westerunie

As if the previous events weren’t enough, Westerunie will also shine with lazers all over the place on this special day. The people of Rockit, known for their yearly event ‘Rockit Open Air’ present their Christmas Allstars with Steve Bug, Andre Galluzzi and Bushwacka hitting the stages. What else? Dresscode; anything containing a star! Think Jesus Christ Superstar, Shining Star, Baby I’m a Star, A Star Is Born, Rising Star, Ringo Starr, etc.. Good opportunity to show off that star tattoo you got back in 2001.

KERSTKRAKERS with Philip Young @ Studio Moenkunst

Looking for something more underground? Then this might be the right place for you: a party in an old studio up north in Amsterdam featuring one of my favorite local minimal techno DJs Philip Young. No promotional material for this one, only word of mouth. You know those ones often end up to be both the cheapest and most adventurous ones. Here’s some raw video footage of how it went down last year, fala lalala lalalala.
