Our previous Local Vogues involving fashion bloggers have always been with girls, so I thought it was time for a male blogger to get his chance on the series. Amsterdam has Hussein as one of its most happening male bloggers. His street-wear kind of style inspired me and a lot of other young Amsterdam boys to dress good regardless of our limited budget as students, so check out the video interview I did with him!
Hussein admits that he started the blog because of his ex-girlfriend’s suggestion to express his creativity in a positive way. Less than a year later, his blog Yesterdaysucks.com actually attracts a lot of readers, especially males, and not only from Amsterdam but from all over the world. His friend Abderrahmane helped him with the artwork for the blog, which I like a lot. Hussein himself is currently studying Communication Science at the University of Amsterdam and wants to work for fashion magazines, such as GQ or Complex magazine in the future. Alternatively, he would love to just travel around the world and blog about it.
Fashion in Amsterdam
As for our local fashion culture, Hussein’s got his own opinions. But, as a fashion blogger, he always gets invited to all sorts of local fashion events, so it’s sometimes hard for him to tell what the real status of Amsterdam street fashion is. What Hussein likes most about fashion in Amsterdam is its variety in vintage shops: there are almost 40 vintage stores around the city centre that are very nice for young people to look for some alternative clothing. At the end of the interview, I asked for a bit of an advice on how to dress good as a man and he simply replied: “Wear what you like and wear what you feel comfortable with”. That sums it all up, doesn’t it? Lastly, Hussein wants to thank his first advertiser, Ricardo Egido, for his support.
