Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow your options down by weekly suggesting the events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. So here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.

Thursday: Booka Shade @ Melkweg

My oh my, have we got a weekend ahead of us, it’s giving me chills already. It starts off with the German masters of electronic melody: Booka Shade! They’ll be bringing pop temple Melkweg a visit together with 360 Soundsystem (aka Nuno dos Santos & Patrice Bäumel) and Jorn Liefdeshuis. Just go, it ain’t expensive. They’re not your ordinary DJ-duo, they perform live with keys, percussion, computers, mixers, vocals, etc, etc.. Ahh what the hell, just watch this other clip from two years ago in Paradiso, it’s worth more than 300 words!

Friday: Viral Radio – Cardiff Edition @ Trouw

A day later it’s time for “the most cutting edge event in Amsterdam” as described by Time Out Amsterdam. This time around, the feast is held as tribute to the capital, largest city and most populous county of Wales; Cardiff. Re-imagining the early frequencies of dubstep and beat music, three of the city’s most prolific protagonists Monky, Stagga and Don Leisure will present a fresh (and woozy) perspective on bass futurism. Wop wop wop.

Saturday: VOLTT @ Paradiso

Ahh, good old VOLTT, known for their legendary outdoor feast in the summer where everybody shines and dances around the NDSM docks to the repetitive sounds that represent Amsterdam’s true techno scene. Well, they also have indoor parties throughout the year, such as the one this coming Saturday in Paradiso. Featuring Gabriel Ananda, Zander VT, Andre Kraml and our own 100% pure Amsterdam-based Bart Skils, it should be a good follow-up to their latest edition.

Sunday: Source Festival Addition @ Trouw

Another popular event amongst the same techno-orientated scene in western Holland is a party called Source. Throughout the year they organize both winter and summer editions for their festivals. I recall having a blast at last winter’s ‘Source on Ice‘ edition. Their latest summer festival unfortunately, got partly canceled due to a minor rain storm and therefore… All ticket holders get to attend their ‘Festival Addition’ party at Trouw this Sunday from 4pm ’till 4am! There are also tickets available for non-ticket holders by the way, for a very reasonable price of 10 euro. Check out their own little parody invitation below.

Monday & Tuesday: MGMT @ Paradiso

Finally, although their latest album kinda sucked, these New Yorkers are still referred to as one of the most influential indie rock formations of this era. Who hasn’t had an epic experience in their life whilst listening to Kids, Electric Feel or Time to Pretend? The men are in Amsterdam for two shows, both have been sold out months in advance, but two shows also means more chances to score tickets through second hand markets or prior to the show at the venue. It might just be worth it, as one of my favourite quotes leads: “This is our decision, to live fast and die young, we’ve got the vision, now let’s have some fun” (from Time to Pretend, MGMT). I leave you with a clip of the band saying some pretty cool things about our town last time they were here. Happy hangover!
