While cycling through lovely Amsterdam, I always look around for new things (most of the time the traffic doesn’t approve). Something I see a lot are empty buildings, doing nothing. But, more and more empty spaces are becoming ‘pop up’ locations, temporary spaces for cultural creations. Starting this Saturday (the 25th), the photography festival GRID opens its doors at multiple locations, including a large-scale ‘pop-up’ exhibition-area in Amsterdam. Until the 7th of November, a one kilometre long strip consisting of eight old factory buildings has been transformed into the Cruquius Culture Creation Strip.
Here, on 10.000 square meters of exhibition space, top photo exhibitions from countries such as Czech Republic, Taiwan, Kenya, Germany, Italy and Mexico are shown. During six weeks, numerous galleries, museums, countries, photo agencies, photographers, advertisers and other participants from the creative industries will perform on this accessible and experimental stage. You can find the programme here. GRID wants to help renowned and emerging photographers to display their work and help all kinds of visual communication meet.
My exhibition tip: the photographers of Consequences by NOOR, because they succeed in their mission of beautiful in-depth visual reports. The ten photographers show the humanitarian effects of global warming on the world and give me a better understanding of our existence.. More information about this exhibition can be found here.
