On a typically rainy morning, I got a call from Melanie with a request that made my day. London Fashion Week would start on Friday September 17th and the Arnhem based label Spijkers en Spijkers, who have showed in Amsterdam many times before and happen to be one of my favourite Dutch labels, were going to show on the off schedule programme. “Would you be interested in going along with the crew and covering the event on Overdose.am?” Melanie asked. You can imagine I didn’t have to think twice about answering: yes!
Part 1: Models Roadtrip
And so it began.. Me and camera man Ernesto packed our bags and started on a long journey to cover a fashion show from Amsterdam in London. We travelled together with the Spijkers en Spijkers crew, which consisted of interns, PR ladies and 12 models, all stuck in one bus. I had never travelled to London on a bus before and let me tell you, it is quite an experience. It took us more than 10 hours to finally see the London Eye and all the while I had to keep reminding myself that I was travelling with a bigger cause: seeing Spijkers en Spijkers in action, working with the London Fashion Week crew and interviewing my fashion heroes. So no complaining allowed.
Although it was a long and bumpy ride, our suffering turned out to be well worth the trip. I will be sharing the experience with all of you during the coming days. Expect reports of the show and the backstage experience of the Londen Fashion Week. Because pictures speak more than a thousand words, I will leave you with a gallery dedicated to the road trip, filled with happy models, snacks and crew to give you an impression of those first tough hours.
