Rob is 27 (but needs his beard to actually look like it), loves music, adventures and spontaneous people. His scribblings are about these things too, so if you share his interests, stay tuned!

Antwerp is Belgium’s Amsterdam, and that is where Frederik Heyman is from. This visual artist and fashion photographer is exhibiting work from two series of ‘photographic illustrations’ in Vlaams Cultuurhuis de Brakke Grond, an initiative/venue that shares exciting cultural stuff from Flanders in Amsterdam. The promotional pictures I saw for this exhibition kept me staring at them for a while.. There is just so much happening in them: they are theatrical, humorous, surreal and chaotic at the same time! I realise how abstract I sound now, but just have a look at them yourself.

The exhibition opens on October 8th and is followed by the absurdist performance Zanahoria. The people from De Brakke Grond programmed this performance together with the opening because they think the two will complement each other, so I would say go for the full experience. The exhibition itself will show work from Heyman’s series The Weather Project, which shows how the environment looks during attacks by wind, lightening or water, and The Roof Top Project, where we see a simple roof that can protect or conceal something else: everywhere, any time. Beneath it, new situations constantly arise: painfully recognizable or poignantly tender.

October 8th: Exhibition opening 19.00 – Performance Zanahoria 20.30
