After a long night of barhopping with fellow writer Mark and a few other legends from around town, I knew it wouldn’t be the easiest of Sundays. I was wrong. The smell from outside, the variety of footsteps and the sounds of folk music woke me up on the right side of the bed. This wasn’t just any ordinary Sunday. It was the day ‘Gerard Dou Culinair’ presented itself upon my path, literally.
What was happening? A yearly block party, giving all restaurants, bars and cafés from my street the chance to expose their culinary masterpieces against cost price to the rest of the neighbourhood. Before I knew it, I had a freshly made fruity glass of sangria and traditional Spanish Chorizo for breakfast. I noticed a few familiar neighbours wandering the street, such as Froukje, Saar and our own local fashion star Lily. A few hours later (yes, I was having fun) I even got to see the older version of Mumford and Sons, also known as De Wilma’s. Even the sky did its job and made the scenery look like traditional Amsterdam. Best hangover killer, ever.
