The early eighties street culture of New York is making a temporary comeback on August 13th, so dust off your inner b-boy or fly girl. The Sugar Factory is paying tribute to the early hip-hop of the 80′s in a Beat Street themed tribute party. Just for this night, the whole club will be transformed into a NYC suburb, including graffiti, MC’s and dancers busting old school hip-hop moves.
What I like about this new concept is that it it challenges people to be creative. For instance, if you dress in the style of the Beat Street movie on the night, your will get free entrance. So if you haven’t seen the movie and need some inspiration, check out the classic trailer and the pictures below to see what the real Beat Street style looks like. Blast your speakers, dress to impress and come bust a move with me this Friday at the Sugar Factory.

Electronation invited Max Cooper in 12 Pictures
Last Saturday one of my top rated DJ/producers of the moment hit our town. It was about time for some decent electronica at Leidseplein’s Sugar Factory with none other than Max Cooper! Based in the UK as a scientist and producer, he was the living proof that these very diverse lifestyles can be effortlessly combined live on the dance floor. His music is an amalgamation of techno, house, electro and minimal, and is best described as highly emotional electronica. Support that night came from homegrown hero Applescal, former “Grote prijs van Nederland”-winner, with an amazing warm-up set not to be forgotten. (..more)
