I woke up this morning and suddenly felt an urge to share something with you. That something being the proud feeling I had last Saturday while celebrating with the gays in my city. The Canal Parade, which is the highlight of the annual Gay Pride, has always been one of my favourite events in Amsterdam. I am a firm believer of equality, and every year around this time I feel proud and honoured to live here.
Saturday was no exception. Despite the rain and lack of sun, it seemed as if the entire city, young, old, black, white, gay or straight, had come out to celebrate and be proud of who we are. The new mayor was there and even politicians came out to support. Now I’m not the sentimental type so I won’t gush too much about the harmony, unity and solidarity I felt, but it was good to see Amsterdam the way I love it the most: non-judgemental and free from rules.
So here are some photos to start the week with some happiness and a reminder of why we should keep this city exactly the way it is: liberal and pretty fabulous. Enjoy!
